Translation

When shaping position, let your forces remain connected. From beginning to end, seek initiative in every move. When victory and defeat are not yet decided, not even a hair’s breadth may be squandered. If the whole board is already won, devote yourself to secure life. If the whole board is weak, then invade sharply and seize chances. To flee along the side—even if one lives—is often defeat. To be weak and refuse to yield is to be pressed further down. The impatient seeker of victory is often ruined. When two forces oppose one another, first constrict the opponent’s outside. If isolated and without aid, do not run blindly. If the position is broken beyond repair, do not continue merely to continue. Thus there is a move in not moving, and a play in not playing. There are many ways to err, but only one road to success. He who judges the whole position wins often. The Changes say: “When exhaustion is reached, transformation begins; through transformation comes passage; through passage comes endurance.”
