第五篇: 虚实

原文

夫弈棋，绪多则势分，势分则难救。投棋勿逼，逼则使彼实而我虚。虚则易攻，实则难破。临时变通，宜勿执一。《传》曰﹕“见可而进，知难而退。”

白话文

下棋时，头绪太多则力量分散，力量分散就难以补救。落子不要逼得太近，逼近则使对方厚实而自己空虚。空虚容易受攻，厚实难以攻破。临局应随机应变，不可拘泥一法。《传》说：“见到可行的机会就进，知道困难就退。”

Translation

In Weiqi, when one’s concerns are too many, one’s force is divided; when force is divided, rescue becomes difficult. Do not place stones in needless crowding. To crowd the opponent is often to make him solid while rendering yourself empty. What is empty is easily attacked; what is solid is hard to break. Therefore adapt to the moment and do not cling to one method. The Tradition says: “When advance is possible, advance; when difficulty is known, withdraw.”
